Depression is a common illness, affecting more than 17 million people in the US each year.
Although the exact cause of depression is not known most researchers believe it to be due to a chemical “imbalance” in the brain.
Antidepressant medications work to reestablish the balance of “neurotransmitter chemicals” in the brain.
Counselling plays a key role to help patients plan effective behavioral strategies to combat their depression.

Sources of Childhood Stress
(HealthDay News) -- Kids often get stressed, even without the pressures of adult life. Just as in adults, stress needs to be addressed in children.
The Nemours Foundation lists these possible sources of childhood stress:
- Being involved in too many activities in and out of school.
- Having insufficient play time.
- Having parents who frequently fight and don't get along.
- Having an ill relative.
- Seeing frightening images on TV, such as about war, terrorism or natural disasters.
- Losing a loved one.
