Swine Flu, Bird Flu, SARS, what's next? To what magnitude? How will it effect us? What do we do?

I wonder if the CDC is really prepared for a true pandemic. I mean we hear every day of new aliments effecting us and that the wide spread effects of these diseases, but do the average citizens know what they should do if they had contracted symtoms. We now know what to do in the event of Homeland Sercurity - and how to be on the lookout, we know how to take care of our selves as FEMA fail to help those in need during huricane Katrina - so are we prepared for a pandemic?

I think only individuals can be prepared - know what you need to do, and be educated on the prevention of diseases and how/where to seek treatment if required. For the only sure beat is to be personnally prepared - and not dependent on those others whom should be prepared.
